Quest Description

The purposes and directions of the three tokens have all been found. All the answers of the riddles seem to be hidden behind the mysterious gate that the sundial hints at.

Chixia: How did it go? Anyone hurt? Lemme check on you!

Chixia: Phew! You're still in one piece.

Course I am. You're overreacting.

Chixia: Okay okay. Anything new about the tokens?

You tell Chixia of your findings in the Desorock Highlands and Qichi Village.

Chixia: So those Fractsidus goons are here in Jinzhou now. Things are more serious than I thought.

I wonder what they are up to.

Chixia: Beats me. I've only ran into some bozos before.

Chixia: Those wackos are hellbent on making their own Resonators. Said there's no right or wrong when it comes to Resonance powers and everyone should have the right to them.

Yangyang: They use mechanical manipulation to integrate parts of Tacet Discords into human bodies.

Yangyang: Seeking power with such gruesome acts... I cannot bring myself to understand them.

Chixia: That Scar guy you mentioned sounds like he's on a whole other level. How did the fight go?

Yangyang: He... It seems he didn't intend to kill us. I would say he was even pulling his punches.

Yangyang: I don't know what he wants from us. But Madam Magistrate may have intended to hint something by letting us run into him.

Chixia: I still can't wrap my head around what happened in that village...

Chixia: I went over the files. That case is ancient. It was dealt with and archived way before our current Magistrate took office.

Yangyang: What happened to the village in the end?

Chixia: Don't worry, the crooks were brought to justice, and most of the villagers were relocated to new settlements.

Chixia: But I didn't find anything in the files about that little girl you mentioned.

Yangyang: So Scar really did take her away.

And it seems he did not hurt her.

Yangyang: I agree.

Maybe the Fractsidus had plans to use her for something.

Yangyang: ...

Yangyang: If only we could capture him...

Chixia: Ugh... I'm so lost. Why did Madam Magistrate point you to Qichi Village anyway? What did she want to tell you with that?

Yangyang: And then Scar went there to tamper with the site and mislead you with fake clues...

Or maybe it's the other way around.

Yangyang: You mean...?

Yangyang: The Fractsidus was planning to tell you something about what had happened in that village. Then our Magistrate intercepted by leading you there before they could?

Scar wanted to preach his ideas to me.

I suppose she just made use of the occasion.

She knew what was going to happen.

Yangyang: ...

Yangyang: Madam Magistrate knew they were going to lure you to the village. And she knew they weren't planning to kill you.

Yangyang: Her token was a warning that the Fractsidus had their eyes on you...

Plus, even if Scar really tried to kill us...

We wouldn't be in real danger.

Chixia: How so?

Jinzhou's way of hospitality, remember?

Chixia: You mean she's got someone looking out for you?

Yangyang: Or maybe she prepared other means of protection.

In a game of Weiqi, when the Black moves, White is sure to follow.

Yangyang: Yes, I agree. Knowing their plans, Madam Magistrate would have prepared countermeasures for the worst scenario.

And vice versa. Since the White has made her move...

Chixia: Uh, I don't think I follow.

Yangyang: The legendary figure who changed Jinzhou's history, a looming war with the resurrecting Threnodian, and the Fractsidus acting in the shadows...

Yangyang: If all of these have something to do with your true identity. Then... who exactly are you?

I'm hoping Madam Magistrate has the answer.

I am your friend, the one you know as Rover.

Yangyang: Yes... You will always be the Rover we know, no matter what.

Chixia: That same old TD eating, Echo munching Rover all right!

Chixia: Come to think of it, the sundial's the last token we need to work out.

Yangyang: Mr. Mortefi said it's an intricate puzzle box. Madam Magistrate might have hid her real message inside.

We learned about the time at the Academy.

Yangyang: Yes. It's the 12th ShichenTime Period of the day, represented by the symbol Wei.

We learned about the direction in Qichi Village.

Yangyang: Yes. It's the South, represented by the Vermillion Bird, one of the Four Symbols.

Yangyang: Now we have the Shichen of Wei and Vermillion Bird. We should be able to solve the puzzle.

Chixia: So, Rover, you're gonna try it now?

Yangyang: Symbols on the larger disk represent time, and we need to align the correct symbol with this pointer. It should be....

The Shichen of Yoh.

Yangyang: It's not working. So we can rule out the ShichenTime Period of Yoh now... The correct time we learned at the Academy should be....

Yangyang: It's working. And now...

Yangyang: Symbols on the smaller disk represent direction, and we need to align the correct symbol with this pointer. It should be....

Yangyang: We have Teal Loong of the East, White Tiger of the West, Vermilion Bird of the South, and Black Tortoise of the North. According to the clues we've gathered, it should be...

Yangyang: It's not working. I guess it's not the White Tiger.

Chixia: Wow, you really solved it!

(So this is the last message the Magistrate has for me. This is... the location of Jinzhou's Grand Library.)

Chixia: Wait, I don't think it's something we're allowed to see.

Chixia: Quick, Yangyang. We should turn around!

Chixia: It's gotta be some super confidential stuff Madam Magistrate's written for Rover's eyes only!

Chixia: As public servants... Well, even though we're both just reservists. We know there are rules to follow!

Yangyang: Chixia has a point.

It's nothing you can't see.

Yangyang: Maybe you should read it first, Rover?

We solved this together.

Chixia: Come on, just go ahead and see what's written inside!

It's about the Grand Library...

Yangyang: I see. The Grand Libraries in Huanglong are renowned for their vast databases, holding valuable information about the regions they represent. Their exact locations are kept confidential, but it is believed they hold answers to all questions one could ask.

Yangyang: The Grand Libraries are vital for Huanglong's data security, managed by the regional Sentinels, accessible only to the Magistrates. They are rarely open to the public.

Chixia: Kinda like a big piggy bank inside the City Hall. Data-wise!

Yangyang: Yes. You will find the most comprehensive and accurate information there.

Yangyang: Rover, if you'll need to visit the Grand Library in Jinzhou to find out who you are, I think it suggests two things....

Yangyang: First, there is a strong link between your past and Jinzhou's history.

Yangyang: Second, you must be a really significant person.

Chixia: So you're super important to Jinzhou, maybe even all of Huanglong...

Chixia: Wow, I think we stumbled upon a real big shot when we didn't even know it!

Yangyang: What's that matter, Rover? Something wrong with the sundial?

Is the City Hall at the center of Jinzhou?

Yangyang: It is Jinzhou's political center. And it's also located at the city's center, if that's what you mean.

Yangyang: The City Hall was built first when Jinzhou was established. It's a popular landmark for locals giving directions.

Yangyang: Why do you ask, Rover?

Madam Magistrate wishes to meet me alone.

I'll need to go somewhere on my own.

Chixia: See? What did I say! Covert ops, real confidential stuff going on!

Yangyang: ...

Chixia: C'mon, Yangyang. It's just an one-on-one meeting with Madam Magistrate. What's the worst that could happen?

Chixia: Relax, relax!

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Chixia: Hey! Are you really trying to stress her out?

Yangyang: I guess you're right. Still, please be careful.

Enter the City Hall and find the Grand Library[]

(Move the vases to incorrect positions): The vase didn't budge at all. Not this one. I should go check on the other vases...

(Move the vases to correct positions): I think I heard a low, grumbling noise...

(Open the gate): Rover: A hidden passage... As I expected.; Rover: That must be the entrance to the Database.

(Inspect the Symphodai): Rover: A part of the building is submerged... I should be able to find the hidden path underwater.; Rover: It seems I have a puzzle to solve. Guess I will check on the mechanism in the middle first.; Rover: "...Gather five tones to align in tune. The Bells shall guide your path."; Rover: "...Find keynotes to determine tone. The Archive shall be unmasked."; Rover: I see. The control panel here does look like a musical instrument, but five music notes seem to be missing.; Rover: So to gain access to the Database, I will need to recover the five missing notes stored in those Sonodisks...; Rover: What is that sound coming from behind the Symphodaicontrol panel?

(Collect Sonodisk: Yu): Rover: This must be one of the missing notes. Now... How do I connect it with the Symphodai?

(Place Sonodisk: Yu): Rover: Part of the Scoreholder just lit up. As I expected.; Rover: The drum over there seems to have unlocked.

(Activate the Loong Drum): Rover: A Bell just raised out of the water... So that's what it meant by having the Bells guide my path.

(Strike the Bell and adjust it to the correct orientation): Rover: A new walkway has shown up. I must have solved the first puzzle.; Rover: Seems I will need to look for more Sonodisks in there.

(Defeat the Tacet Discords): Rover: Tacet Discords... Inside the City Hall?; Rover: No, they are not real... They must be some kind of digital simulation. It seems they are the guards here. Interesting how I'm not hearing sirens, despite having destroyed every one of them.; Rover: Apart from the simulated Tacet Discords, it's unusually quiet in this place...

(Check the clues of the next Sonodisk): Rover: "...Multiply fifty-four with four thirds for the Frequency you seek. Find this note in the West, while the prophet is beyond reach."; Rover: I suppose it's telling me where I can find the next Sonodisk... I think it mentioned a direction. What does that last sentence mean, though...; Rover: That sound... It's coming from the west.

(Pick Sonodisk: Shang): Rover: This is the second Sonodisk. I should bring it to the Symphodai.

(Place Sonodisk: Shang): Rover: The water level just dropped again. There's another two drums, one in the east, and another in the west.; Rover: I may find more Sonodisks down there.

(Approach the southern Loong Drum): Rover: It seems locked... Guess I'll need to activate the other one first.

(Activate the northern Loong Drum): Rover: So this is the right way to go.; Rover: I am being fed just enough information to work out the puzzle. This does look like Miss Magistrate's doing.

(Head to where the Sound comes from): Rover: The drum on the other side has unlocked. Guess I'll go check on it before I leave, just to be safe.

(Activate the southern Loong Drum): Rover: Another Bell just rose up from the water, but it's still locked... I'll need to connect the passageways first.

(Take the elevator up): Rover: The music I just heard... It must be the Sonodisk.

(Defeat the Guards): Rover: Here it is. Time to deal with the guards.; Rover: (Jinzhou's City Hall is the political hub, while the Grand Library holds vital data. Considering how I just took out all those guards, this place is oddly under-protected. If my guess is correct, the Magistrate may have other plans for me...); Rover: ...Anyway. I'll keep going.

(Pick up Sonodisk: Jue): Rover: I've retrieved the third Sonodisk. Time to head back.

(Strike the Bell and adjust it to the correct orientation): Rover: Another platform.; Rover: "The Bells will lead my path," huh. I'll go work out the passageways.

(Investigate the Room): Rover: (This feeling... I am being watched.); Rover: Must be another Sonodisk.

(Pick up Sonodisk: Zhi): Rover: This is the fourth missing note.; Rover: Almost there.

(Investigate the Lower Platform): Rover: Now the water is all gone.; Rover: One last note to go.

(Defeat the Guards): Rover: This is the last one. They've prepared quite the welcome for me.

(Pick up Sonodisk: Gong): Rover: I have the last Sonodisk ready. Time to go back to the Symphodai.

(Head to the Database): Rover: Now I should have access to the Database...

Rover: So this is the "Grand Library". It's said to hold the answers to every question imaginable...

Rover: I'm not seeing anyone here. I guess the Magistrate is yet to arrive.

Rover: Well. It wouldn't hurt to browse the archives for a bit as I wait for her to show up.

(Cutscene: Scar walks in.)

Scar: Thank you for leading the way, Rover.

Scar: ...What a magnificent place to set foot in. Extensive. Exhaustive.

Scar: Oh... How I want to carve the place inside-out... And blow it all to shreds!

Scar: Hmm? Thought you'd seem a bit more surprised.

Scar: I wonder... Why?

(Cutscene: Rover jumps back as Sanhua's ice attack hits Scar, immobilizing him. Sanhua and Jinhsi walk in.)

Scar: Heh. So you've laid a trap for me.

(Cutscene: Scar frees himself and defends against Jinhsi's attack.)

Scar: Hehe... Hahahaha!

Scar: Interesting... Do you really think you can trap me here?

Jinhsi: You will not escape.

(Cutscene: Scar summons his Elysium.)

Scar: What a shame I can't stay and play with you a bit longer...

Scar: Til we meet again, dear friends.

Rover: You're not going anywhere!

(Cutscene: Rover jumps into the closing Elysium.)

Defeat Scar[]

(Defeat Scar: Aberrant Nightmare): Scar: Did you just offer yourself up to be my prey? Hehe...; Scar: Now... It's just the two of us.; Scar: Stow away that irrational anger of yours.; Scar: I just have a friendly reminder for you...; Scar: Seeing is not always believing. Why are you so sure they told you the truth? Don't jump to conclusions so soon.; Scar: Why are you so stubborn? Why can't you place some of that trust in me?; Scar: Or... Do I have to crush you to make you behave for once!

(After defeating Scar)

(Cutscene: Scar is now handcuffed.)

Scar: So you knew I was following you all along.

Scar: My Elysium only breaks under coordinated attacks from both sides. I can never get rid of all these pesky little helpers around you, can I?

Scar: So you've joined hands against me with Miss Magistrate here. It does hurt my feelings, you know.

Scar: You're always so, so popular...

Jinhsi: Are you all right, Rover?

I'm fine.

Scar: Of course he/she is. How could I ever have the heart to hurt him/her?

Scar: Consider my moment of failure a gift of sincerity, Rover. I trust you haven't forgotten our conversation earlier.

Scar: Choose me. I'll tell you everything you want.

I already know everything.

Scar: Heh. I see... So she made the move before I could, and told you all of it already.

Scar: Then, as the winners... Would you be so kind as to tell me how you set me up?

(Flashback starts.)

Rover: (Now I have retrieved the Magistrate's message for me from the puzzle box.)

Rover: (But it only points me to where the Grand Library is. There is not a meeting time... Something is still missing.)

Rover: (I've solved the puzzle, the disks have been rotated, and the two symbols are now glowing.)

Rover: (With this glowing light, a shadow is cast on two other symbols.)

Rover: (The Black Tortoise of the North... North to the City Hall)

Rover: (And the time reads... The ShichenTime Period of Chou, in the Wei [sic] hours of the morning.)

Jinhsi: It's been three days.

Jinhsi: We've both made it on time.

Jinhsi: Allow me to formally introduce myself. I am Jinhsi. It brings me great joy to see you, Rover.

Hello.

I hope I'm not talking to another projection.

Jinhsi: To show up as a projection again would be ill-mannered of me. Please rest assured, it is a real human in the flesh you're speaking to. Despite Huanglong's advanced technology, such a realistic projection is still impossible.

Jinhsi: When a region's Sentinel goes absent, chaos is bound to ensue. As this news could lead to civil unrest, please keep it a secret.

Jinhsi: Jinzhou's Sentinel, "Jué," is being held captive by the Fractsidus. I had to postpone our meeting and put all my effort into finding its whereabouts.

I heard you can resonate with the Sentinel?

Jinhsi: Yes, our thoughts are connected to a certain degree. I can sense its memories, feelings, and surroundings, though not very clearly.

Have you found it yet?

Jinhsi: Unfortunately, I haven't. I can feel Jué is in danger. The good news is, I have figured out the culprit behind all of this.

Is it Scar?

Jinhsi: Precisely.

Jinhsi: The Fractsidus plans to advance another Lament and cause disasters worldwide.

Jinhsi: Overseer Scar had several objectives upon infiltrating Jinzhou.

Jinhsi: To track you down, to test your strengths, and to make you join their cause. To abduct Jué and to resurrect the Threnodian in advance.

Why me?

Jinhsi: They must have discovered your value, likely from one of Jué's prophecies. If you join them, they'll gain significant power.

Jinhsi: Should you refuse to join, the Fractsidus will likely want to eliminate you so you don't get in their way.

Jinhsi: I have a plan to apprehend Scar. Once we capture him, the Fractsidus won't be that much of a threat to you for the time being.

Jinhsi: If you are willing to lend us a hand, I will ensure your safety during our cooperation.

Jinhsi: The threat Jinzhou is facing is far worse than meets the eye.

Jinhsi: One of the Threnodians will soon be reawakened...

What are the Threnodians?

Jinhsi: They are the enemies of human civilizations, born from the dark side of our collective consciousness. We must defeat them to protect all of humanity.

Jinhsi: We have been doing our best to prevent the disaster, but the Fractsidus is accelerating the Threnodian's revival.

And it has something to do with me, yes?

Jinhsi: Correct.

Jinhsi: You have defeated the Crownless and absorbed its Echo with your bare hands. It is the Tacet Discord that embodies the concept of warfare.

Jinhsi: —Resentment of the fallen, fright of the ignoble... Those are the emotions that laid grounds for its birth.

Jinhsi: The Crownless is a Tacet Discord that possesses powers from the reviving Threnodian.

Jinhsi: Jinzhou is a border city with an unbreakable will and strong spirit of resistance. However, we also fear the constant wars and loss of life, and the Threnodian can prey on that.

Jinhsi: You, however... You were able to defeat and absorb a Threnodian-related Tacet Discord with your bare hands, and resonate with other TDs.

Jinhsi: Meanwhile, Huanglong's records mention a hero with similar powers who saved our nation during the Threnodian War. He/She is also mentioned in literature dating back to Jinzhou's establishment.

Jinhsi: To uncover your true identity, this could be a helpful lead to pursue.

You believe that person and I could be related in some way?

Jinhsi: Yes. Based on my own deduction, and the prophecies of Jué.

Jué... In the Gorges of Spirits..

Jinhsi: You mean... The unfinished statue of Jué?

I remembered something when I saw it.

But I'm not sure if that really happened.

Jinhsi: I see. Do you mind letting me know what you remembered? Since it's related to our Sentinel, I might be able to help.

You told Jinhsi about all the bits and pieces of memories you could remember.

Jinhsi: Rover, the memories of which you speak...

Jinhsi: As I mentioned earlier, I can resonate with Jué, our Sentinel. Your recollections... They align with what I've witnessed in Jué's memories.

Jinhsi: Yes, I do remember seeing something similar... I believe it had truly happened in the past.

Jinhsi: The unwavering presence by our Sentinel's side, bonded by unbreakable trust.

I don't reckon Resonators can live that long.

Jinhsi: Resonators tend to have a longer lifespan, but it is indeed unprecedented to live hundreds of years without any sign of aging.

Jinhsi: So many mysteries about you remain unsolved, and your age is just one of the unknowns.

If this is true, who was I all that time ago?

And how did I end up losing my memories?

Jinhsi: Sorry, but I don't know. Jué's last piece of information pointed to the Norfall Barrens, where you should find the Threnodian.

Jinhsi: A Threnodian is resurrecting, and our nation is in grave danger. This reminds me of the Threnodian War all too much. Perhaps... This has something to do with your mysterious appearance near Jinzhou?

You mean I showed up to protect Jinzhou like the historical hero did?

Jinhsi: Not really. I don't plan to believe in a hero showing up out of nowhere and protecting us.

Jinhsi: I am just presenting whatever lead I have about your past, as I know it is troubling you. I want to help you, and that is all to it.

Jinhsi: Thank you for considering lending us a hand. Your help is much appreciated, but please do not feel obligated because of the information I shared.

Jinhsi: They are my people, and the responsibility to keep them safe should fall on no one else but my own shoulders.

Jinhsi: I am saying this because I have faith in my abilities, and even more so in the bravery of Jinzhou's soldiers and our people.

Jinhsi: You deserve to make your own decision about this after uncovering your true identity.

Jinhsi: I appreciate everything you've done for us, during the past few days, or perhaps even much longer ago.

Jinhsi: Once it all settles, I am ready to accommodate and assist in whatever future decision you make. You can leave Jinzhou, or the entire Huanglong if you wish.

Jinhsi: If you ever need me again, you need only ask.

Jinhsi: Let's keep this a secret between the two of us. How does that sound?

Scar: A SentinelOracle Engine such as Jué can predict and "correct" future events. It gets in our way of achieving our sublime vision.

Scar: We merely wanted to topple the set future built on lies, and take control of our own destiny.

Why are you obsessed with reviving the Threnodian?

Scar: The Threnodians... They hold the key to our ideal.

Scar: Together they will bring us the promised "true Lament", and we will embrace the new world that is bound to come.

Scar: Sure, why not. What do you want to know?

What on earth is the Lament?

Scar: What is the Lament? Disaster? Curse? Some kind of punishment? Ha! People only see the surface...

Scar: The Lament brings death, destruction, and countless Reverberations.

Scar: Reverberations that will be reflected, overlapped, and interwoven during the Lament... They will be our salvation, the only path to a new lifeform and a new civilization.

Scar: Sure, why not. What do you want to know?
