This quest begins after repairing any one of the five lighthouses.
Completing this quest awards the Exploration: Huanglong trophy May the Beacons Guide Us.

Quest Description

Locate five lighthouses in Huanglong, collect information, and help the historian to uncover the truth

(After repairing any lighthouse): ???: Hello? Can anyone hear me?; Who is this?; ???: A connection? Outstanding!; Historian: I'm a historian of the Jinzhou Imperial Academy. I am currently conducting a study on these old lighthouses scattered all over Jinzhou. There must be many fascinating stories stored inside them.; Historian: Yet I have been unsuccessful in deciphering the information inside the lighthouses' consoles... However, I did manage to discover that the console will send out a certain alarm signal when its system is being interfered with.; Historian: I accidentally connected to your Pangu Terminal while I was investigating these signals. It appears that your Terminal's ID was transmitted to me as an intruder alert.; You're calling me, because...?; Historian: Ahh, yes. I really wish to know the stories surrounding these lighthouses in detail. Do come find me in Jinzhou city when you have the time, and we'll discuss it in person.

(Talk to the historian): Historian: Hello, hello! You must be the one who solved the mysteries of the lighthouses.; That's me.; Historian: Please, describe to me your findings within the consoles. I am truly intrigued.

You tell the historian about what you found inside the consoles.

Historian: Hmm... I didn't expect such stories to occurred...

Historian: What was the final destination of the "Stingray"? A question that would truly arouse one's interest... It feels that this would make a wonderful research topic.

Historian: Having studied the historical records, I have learned that there are five of these identical lighthouses within Jinzhou in total.

Historian: Obtaining the records from all of the lighthouses' consoles may just reveal the whereabouts of the "Stingray."

Historian: Can you ask you a favor by finding the records of the remaining lighthouses? You will be greatly rewarded!

Not a problem, leave it to me.

Doesn't matter. I'm just here for the history part.

Historian: Haha. Then I shall entrust the task to you!

Tiderise Cliff[]

(Inspect the console): (This looks like a console I can hack into, but its powerline has been cut off.); (There should a power supply unit not far from these facilities...); (I can use the Sensor on my Pangu Terminal to scan the lighthouse's surroundings, and see if there's a way to recover the power connection.)

(Upon powering the lighthouse): (The power's reconnected. The powerline seems to be leading up to that abandoned lighthouse.); (Let's see if there's anything I can find in that lighthouse.)

(After hacking into the lighthouse terminal system): Beacon Terminal: Verifying Ship Registration>>>>> Extracting latest log entry — Complete; Beacon Terminal: Ship Registration [NUS8910]>>>>> Initiating voice recording; "NUS8910": This is Acting Captain Moak of the Stingray... We are now in preparation for landing at these coordinates... Uh, "we"... as in me and the other five crew members.; "NUS8910": They're not really the ship's crew, strictly speaking. Just a few stragglers seeking refuge from those monsters. Picked up by our kind-hearted and now-deceased captain.; "NUS8910": Mateo believes that the monsters must've been wiped out by now since it has been over a month, and insists on getting off the ship.; "NUS8910": Mateo is a soon-to-be graduate student on a research assignment from his professor.; "NUS8910": They were supposed to meet right by the lighthouse. He's a month late, wonder if they'd kicked him out of the school for it by now.; "NUS8910": We couldn't get through that thick skull of his to have him stay aboard the ship. So, the best we can do is give him some of the supplies and hope for the best for him and his professor.

Beacon Terminal: Ship Registration [NUS8910]>>>>> Initiating voice recording

"NUS8910": This is Acting Captain Moak of the Stingray... Today is our forty-third day since our departure from the harbor.

"NUS8910": Xie Qi reported the ship's first sighting of a lighthouse's light beam from up on the highlands. We followed it and arrived at these coordinates in preparation for landing...

"NUS8910": To our surprise, not a single person was found on the shores, only the lighthouse projecting its lonely light... Not a very assuring sight to say the least.

"NUS8910": Xie Qi insisted on staying... As an engineer, he wanted to stay behind and modify the communications equipment of the lighthouse.

"NUS8910": In his words, with necessary modifications in place should make communication with other survivors possible. He'll inform us when the time comes... We hope his efforts will not go in vain.

"NUS8910": Since Xie Qi's the brightest out of any of us, he wouldn't have suggested it if he didn't know what he was doing. We respected his decision and provided him some of the supplies before setting sail again.

Forbidden Forest[]

"NUS8910": Stingray... Moak recording...

"NUS8910": Three months has passed, and the Stingray is running dry on her fuel reserves. We'll soon be drifting on open waters at this rate...

"NUS8910": At long last we spotted another lighthouse on the edge of this forest. No traces of those monsters.

"NUS8910": Chances of finding fuel in this forest is non-existent, but at least there's plenty of fruits and mushrooms to go around.

"NUS8910": Qi Shuqing and Rana agreed to disembark and start a living here. They plan on building a wooden house, raise a vegetable field, and become self-sufficient. A small home of their own.

"NUS8910": Initially, I thought of talking them into staying aboard, but there's no guarantee the monsters won't appear again... even on sea.

"NUS8910": In a time where the path leading to tomorrow is obscured, being able to live a simple life with the people you love is probably the last bit of happiness one can savor.

"NUS8910": Stingray here... Acting Captain Moak recording...

"NUS8910": I say Captain, but I'm actually the only one left on this ship. This morning, Espey, my last companion, also quietly left the Stingray unnoticed.

"NUS8910": It was already late evening when we found this lighthouse on the mountain yesterday, so we made an approach and prepared to go on land and check the place out after dawn, as we have done in the past.

"NUS8910": It wasn't until dawn that I found Espey had already gone missing... I'd thought that he had escaped with all the remaining supplies.

"NUS8910": But I was quickly put to shame by my own suspicions - The supplies were untouched. Espey left them all for me.

"NUS8910": He knew fully well that the remaining supplies weren't enough to support two people on sea, so he left the last hopes of life to me and went ashore to seek for survival.

"NUS8910": What an idiot... Even if we both were to die at sea, I would never have the thought of abandoning my crew.

"NUS8910": So I left some supplies at these coordinates, hoping that they would be useful to him... From here on out, this will be the final voyage for me and the Stingray.

"NUS8910": This is the Stingray... Acting Captain Moak recording...

"NUS8910": This morning, I received a communication from Xie Qi. The bastard actually managed to make contact with some survivors.

"NUS8910": He tells me that the disaster is over. All the monsters have been wiped out, and the crisis of humanity has been resolved.

"NUS8910": Best of all, the crew members that stayed behind on land are all safe and sound. It's news nothing more worth celebrating.

"NUS8910": Our seventeen-month-long voyage on the sea has finally come to an end. I'm preparing to return to the harbor where it all began. This journey of suspense is finally over.

"NUS8910": I don't plan on bringing the remaining supplies back with me, so I buried them somewhere near the lighthouse. Maybe they can come in handy for someone in need oneday.

"NUS8910": *chuckle* But it wouldn't be fun if they're too easy to find, would it? I left behind a little riddle. I'm sure anyone who happens to listen to this recording can solve it.

(After repairing all five lighthouses): Historian: Hello Rover, do you still remember me? I'm a historian from the Imperial Academy.; Historian: It appears you have activated all five lighthouses. I'm sure you must have learned a great deal about the Stingray.; Historian: Please, come back to the city and tell me all about them when you have the time to spare.; Historian: Maybe this time, we can finally solve this unknown piece of history!

(Talk to the Historian): Historian: Greetings, Rover. Did you find the remaining lighthouses?

You tell the historian what you found inside the consoles.

Historian: Is that so? You managed to find information from all five lighthouse consoles you say...!; Historian: Your passion for history is much greater than that of my own pupils. This brings tears to my eyes.; Are we now able to find the location of the Stingray?; Historian: Of course, this information is more than adequate for me to calculate the Stingray's whereabouts. But there is something strange about this...; What is it? You can't find it?; Historian: No. It's just that it is not worth searching for it anymore.; Historian: According to those coordinates, I can say with confidence that this Stingray is the same ship that we salvaged near the harbor of the Whining Aix's Mire a few years prior.; Historian: Inside the wreckage, we found some of the crew's logs, although broken into pieces, we still managed to link them with the stories found in the consoles.; So were Moak and his crew all safe?; Historian: Unfortunately, we also discovered six bodies inside... Based on the information we have, they belong to Moak and his crew members.; How could this be?; Historian: Further investigations found that the deaths of the other five members date back even further than the time when Moak made his first recording in the lighthouse.; Historian: In other words, Moak had been sailing on the sea alone all this time, and his crew members had long since fallen victim to the TDs...; Historian: Experiencing such losses, Moak refused to accept such an ending. So he fell into a fantasy, that he and his crew members all found the lighthouses one by one, found their own homes, and left the Stingray safely.; Historian: In the end, only he himself completed the voyage and forever laid in that seabed with the Stingray.; Are you sure this is what truly happened...?; Historian: I cannot make any guarantees, as these are just my own speculations. Yet, unfolding forgotten stories, is what makes history fascinating.; Historian: No matter the case, I'm very grateful to you for letting me witness the entire story in its entirety. You deserve these rewards for your passion for history.
